Kings of Leon – Only By the Night

Yes I know, I am a bit slow on hearing this album (it came out somewhere in September 2008 last year) but yeaa toatally loving it at the moment. I am not such a big Kings of Leon fan and I have only listened to a couple of their hit singles from their previous album’s so I can’t really give a full comparison with this album and their older stuff.

But I can tell you what I love about this album.

I love the bass lines on certain tracks such as “17″, “Be Somebody”, “I want you” and “Revelry”. Being a bassist myself, I love the little bass runs that they do on those tracks. It really keeps the southern sound that the Kings of Leon are famous for. And even taking the album as a whole, all tracks have a very cool distinct bass line to it.

Plus their first 2 singles “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody” sounds wicked.  Although I would prefer Use Somebody over Sex on Fire just because their lead singer Caleb just sounds emo during the Chorus/Pre Chorus.

So yea, I suck on album reviews but yea do check it out. Wicked album.

Oh yea, did I mention that they have two album covers as well?

Alright a question to all nangers out there (sorry thats my new word for Penangites)…

“How many times have we been guilty of complaining that Penang is utter boring and how we always moan about how there is nothing to do?”

Come on hands up….I for one is as guilty as charged…I have complained that Penang has too many tukaus, Penang has no great bars, Penang has limited places to go….the list goes on and on…

I think many times we take our little tortoise shaped island for granted and not realise that hey Penang actually has a story to tell…When you look at cities like Ipoh who has had their whole city modernised it is just dull. KL is the big city with the big lights and thats all. Melaka is historical but yea has nothing much aside from that…

I did the heritage walk over the last weekend and dropped into several art galleries, had wicked pasta in this totally deck cafe called Ecko Cafe which was in this old house in Chulia St…really really hipster. Plus you get the old Penang buildings with its very own unqiue design.

We don’t need another shopping mall. Neither do we need sky scrapers that reach the sky. Trust me. Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan have better sky scrapers and shopping malls than us.

We have culture, the beach, and little bars along Chulia st which are just hip. Love Penang for what it is. Lets stop trying to make it into a pretentious little place….

Accoustic and Live Music sessions anyone?

I woke up this morning with an idea that just whizzed into my head.

“TO ORGANISE AN ACCOUSTIC GIG.”

Considering the fact that I have been moaning and whining that Penang does not have a lively music scene it suddenly occured to me that I should stop my whining and do something about it.  I most probably won’t be able to do it fully accoustic and I reckon it would be cool to get a little variety. But yea, why not?

I don’t really know what it will take to organise one. And I certainly wouldn’t know how the local Penang crowd will respond to it (mainly the fact that if I get around doing it I will be doing it at the Soundmaker Studio which is more suitable for a hardcore/metal gig. Doubt non gig goers are willing to stand through out the whole time!) but yea I reckon I am willing to give it a go……

Anyone out there interested in contributing ideas or even $$$????

The Sunscreen Song

I was working in the morning and listening to my favourite radio station Triple J, when they played a very very old song; the Sunscreen Song…

The first time I heard about the Sunscreen Song was when I was form 1 and it did not mean much to me. I was young, naive and out looking for trouble.

10 years later this song speaks the world to me and I reckon as older as you go this song should be running non stop on your ipods….here are the video and lyrics

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen.

The Queensland Government in Australia is willing to pay someone $150,000 AUD for 6 months and live RENT FREE on the Great Barrier Reef. Ain’t that rad? All you have to do is to be willing to walk white sandy beaches, sit under palm trees and swim with turtles as they soak up the sun and then just blog about it.

It just reminds me of how I spent my winter holidays up in the Sunny Coast up in Queensland in 2006. My good old Aunty Cheng Im and Uncle David and Jack live up there on the Sunshine Coast. Their house is like located in the middle of nowhere in the bush (certainly talking in an Asian context, my aunt and uncle will think so otherwise) where the nearest tuck shop is like a 20 minute drive and your neighbour is like maybe 1 km away.

Plus it’s about 45 minutes away from beach which isn’t commercialised like the Gold Coast. So that means you don’t get like too many tourists pricks and skyscrapers blocking the sun while ure lying down on the beach. Just rad in my opinion.

Most probably the corniest/romantic/sappy/crappy (depends who you are) comes from this movie.

Can’t really remember what happens but basically Jerry Mc Guire (played by Tom Cruise) goes up to the girl he loves and says ” YOU COMPLETE ME….” and yea the girl falls for it. Awesome.

Certainly he must have had some auditing training before he became whatever he was. In audit we care about completeness. Are you sure that the report is complete? Are all items taken up in this report? Can you ensure that your client didn’t leave out any accounts in the report?

Crap seriously. Thats like an auditor’s buzz word. Trust me if you ain’t an auditor and you’re hanging around with a bunch of us. Just mention the word. Trust me, YOU will be loved. You will most probably get a bald specky, nerdy auditor jumping up and down screaming

” YAY YAY COMPLETENESS. Let me tell you how to ensure completeness….”

Yup you just unleashed a kid to a free candy store. Heck if you’re lost in the desert and you’re about to die just shout out “Hey How do you ensure completeness?” There will be certainly one of us coming out of nowhere which will tell you how to ensure completeness.

But folks let me tell you that the only true way to ensure completeness in audit is to hire a couple of peeps from the street. Doesn’t matter if they are black, white, latino, chinese, maori, ANything! Just hire a couple of gang bangers, let em go up to your client and say,

“FU*K you. Is that report complete you mothafucka? Tell me man,  otherwise I’m gonna bust this fucken cap up your ass”

Thats how it should be. Auditors should be gangbangers.

Yes I am stressed at work. It’s Friday and it’s 5.30.

I nearly died. Danno is grateful to be alive.

The Chair

It sucks to have asthma.

It sucks to be a little bit scattered brain that you forgot to bring your asthma preventor.

And it sucks nearly passing out in your car while you are trying to finding a stupid clinic in the middle of the day where it is so jammed cause you’re gasping for breath.

But I thank God that I am alive.

While gasping for breath and trying to drive myself to the clinic (yes very stupid indeed. should have got someone to drop me off) I was telling God this can’t be it. I believed I was called to do more in life than what I have done now. DOn’t kill me yet man!!!!!

And he answered me by giving my life back. Found a pharmacist bought a ventilator and went to the clinic after that.

So I feel like it’s a confirmation that GOD has huge and awesome plans, dont ask me why….but just feel its like that. And i know that i shouldnt be wasting my life away with things which are akin to chasing after the wind.

On other news….i feel awesomely happy…:)

and RIP Hon Leong. Your sudden passing further elaborates that life is fragile and it is not ours. Adios amigo. I can’t say i knew you well but you were a really nice and friendly person. My prayers goes out to your family.
